MyBabyOurBaby Powered by WordPress MU and bbPress

MyBabyOurBaby.com is a really impressive site built with WordPress MU and bbPress. The site’s focus is on “saving memories you didn’t even know about” in a very scrapbook-like fashion:

Sure, plenty of other sites allow parents to create online scrapbooks and keepsake photo albums, but no other site makes it easier for busy parents to collect and organize memories from invited family members and friends.

In a post on the WordPress MU forums, co-founder Beau Lebens talks about what it took to build the site and future plans to release some of the custom plugins:

Hi all, I wanted to throw up the site I’ve been working on for a while which uses WPMU as it’s core. It’s *heavily* modified, but there are *no* core hacks (which I’ve quite proud of).

Not modifying/hacking the core means the upgrade path to new versions of WordPress will be a smooth one, and functionality can be shared across different areas of the site.

Beau adds that:

We’ve also got some forums which are powered by bbPress, and that’s completely integrated including avatars, profiles, etc.

In the coming weeks they also hope to give back to the WordPress community:

I’m hoping to release a number of plugins based on the customizations and things that we did for the site, so I’ll be sure to post info on those in the forums here once I get them out.

To learn more, be sure to check out the excellent tour with video screencasts, and read the latest on their blog.

What a great site! They have packed a ton of useful features into one very slick, well integrated package. I am looking to do something very similar for my site, and it’s great to know people are out there blazing the trails and sharing the code with the rest of the world.

Is there a more money earning set of bloggers out there than mommy bloggers? Brilliant.
